@Notsofunnydad Photograph Hacks

One famous chef from a famous rat animation film once said “Anyone can cook, but only the fearless can be great.” Of course this also applies to photography. Anyone can press a button to take a photo these days, but to be great you will have to step up your game and be fearless. You have already taken the first step by simply researching and reading my personal Top 5 Hacks below.

Plan Ahead

Before doing anything, let’s do the basics first. You should think about what’s in your life and what do you want to share with your audience. Select your niche and content first e.g. Colour theme,food, travel, family.

Use Natural Light

Lighting is key, there are no filters that can save a picture that’s poorly lit. If you’re outdoors, early morning, later afternoon and overcast day are the prime times for shooting. If you’re indoors, use any white walls or pick up a piece of foam board from an art shop.

Use Your Eyes

You should always use your eyes and not your lens first, take your time and really observe what it is in front of you. Your image should have strong colours, very defined shapes and lines to make your photo stand out.

Be Different

Try taking pictures from unusual viewpoints. A normal shot can look amazing if shot from completely different perspective than the normal shot. Try shooting from up high or right down on the ground to playing with distance to achieve interesting pictures.

Play With Props

Experiment with different objects whether from food, puddles to a bench. Suddenly your picture is alive with stories. Also if you mix it with unusual viewpoints, you will have an amazing perspective shot.
